Self-Funding Patients

Paying for your treatment

  • Self-funding patients are expected to pay the full amount due on the day of clinic attendance, for either consultation or treatment.
  • The clinic does not offer a retrospective postal billing system.
Patients Covered by Medical Insurance

Booking with insurance

You must contact your medical insurer prior to making an appointment.

  • Medical insurers almost always require a letter of referral from your GP or another specialist before making an appointment.
  • Insurers usually do not cover cosmetic consultations or treatments.
  • Insurers usually do cover consultations for diagnostic reasons.
  • Insurers usually do cover treatment of skin rashes, infections, pre-cancerous conditions and skin cancers.
  • Insurers usually do cover treatment of symptomatic skin conditions (e.g. itching, painful, bleeding).

When you contact your insurer to arrange your first appointment, please ask whether your policy has any voluntary excess — an amount you pay the clinic yourself before cover begins (policies vary widely in this regard).

If your insurer agrees to cover your first consultation, they will give you a unique authorisation number. This applies to that appointment only, not to subsequent reviews or treatments. Please bring this number with you, along with your membership number, and give it to the receptionist so the clinic can bill your insurer directly. If you have any voluntary excess, please pay this to the receptionist on the day.

When you see the doctor, they will give you details of any subsequent reviews or treatment procedures. Treatment procedures (e.g. skin excisions) carry a diagnostic code and fee; following your first consultation you should contact your insurer with this information to obtain a separate, new authorisation number to bring to your subsequent appointment.

Review consultations may be covered by your initial authorisation number, or may require a new one, depending on your insurer and policy. Either way, contact your insurer to tell them you require a review consultation and they will arrange the necessary cover.

Please note

If you attend without a prior insurer authorisation number, you will be expected to pay yourself on the day and claim it back from your insurer. Payment of fees following attendance is the patient's responsibility. It is not the clinic's responsibility to deal with cover issues that arise between the patient and the insurer. There is some variation between insurers' terms and conditions — please speak directly to your insurer regarding any specific queries.

In our experience, it is very unlikely that insurers will cover laser treatments.
